Now that you've read most of our website, you do get the drift that we do not believe
in traditional, hackneyed ways of working. We have a basic rule of thumb. We like
to align our interest with that of the customer. Simple as it may sound, sometimes
we wonder why the others haven't got around doing the same.
The traditional offshore model
Is that of fixed man month rates. We believe it is the very foundation for friction.
The fact that the offshore company's job remains to get personnel who are just about
better than the expectations of the client and then trying to retain the guy at
the lowest possible salary is bizarre and a tad unethical.
The above model might not have been a problem largely for coding jobs, where diversity
and salaries don't really have too much of a difference (100-300% max), but paid
search is a different ball game altogether.
The paid search industry works on different mechanics.
In India, for instance, one can get an MBA for USD 250. While at the cost he may
prove to be sufficiently capable in undertaking a good keyword research (and occasionally
make coffee for everyone), a good copywriter (the one who writes the ads) can cost
you upto USD 3000 a month. That's not the top end though. Go looking for a Paid
Search application development head with 10 years experience in building derivative
applications (yes, that's a job) for the financial sector and he will comfortable
set you back by at least USD 10,000 per month.
Does this mean you are being cheated?
No… it's just that you are paying for their EMIs and the swanky company cars that
they sent for you at the airport. Jokes aside, any offshore company that gives you
a fixed man month rate across the table, is compromising on talent in most areas,
if not all. And it is the business model that is to be blamed, not the intent.
