When
you're stuck with a nickname like “smiley” – there isn't too much that you really
need to tell people about you.
After completing a Diploma in Computer Graphics and Animation from Edit Institute
in 1995, Purabi wanted to launch herself into the burgeoning multimedia scene in
India.
A qualified Graphic Designer, Purabi soon realized that the industry that she had
visualized (no puns intended) was a mere microscopic view of a much larger animal.
Multimedia was growing by leaps and bounds and so did the demands of moving along
with it. To be on top one needed to unlearn just as fast as one learned.
Purabi leapt at the opportunity. For starters, she didn't just stop at being a Graphic
Designer. She educated herself and started working on various other media like web
development, flash animations, Director Presentations and also Corporate films which
gave her a first hand experience of editing and After Effects.
Purabi's association with C2 started in late 1997. Her first assignment – Mucchad Paanwala, one of the early start
clients of the company. For weeks she sat on an empty soft drinks crate with a diary
and a digital camera at Kemps Corner, interviewing Mucchad on his life, his paan,
his special recipes and his celebrity clients. And all she ate for the duration
was, you've guessed it, paan. The hard work paid off though. Paan.com won a web wiz award in the year 2000 and mucchad paanwala
became as famous as the celebrities he served his paan to.
Purabi believes that websites should be built for customers and not web crawlers
(if you think this is obvious, speak to an SEO). Because she realized that the future
home of applications is the web, she trained herself in visual design in application
environment that makes her such an asset at C2. This is also the reason why she
spent time at Infosys, designing their now acclaimed Finacle Banking Solution application.
She appreciated the importance of understanding how Multinationals operate in India,
which made her do a small stint at IBM as well.
Armed with an experience of 8yrs and having worked with biggies like IBM
and Infosys she felt that she had reached a plateau. She wanted
to climb higher doing what she believes in. Purabi thought she had reached
a point where she was in a position to select her dream job to reach that peak.
She decided to come back home to where it all started.
She claims her association with Vivek (our talkative CEO with no music sense) is
one that's been both enriching and rewarding. Her skill levels at C2 have expanded
into newer domains and today she stands her ground at C2 as the Chief Solutions
Architect. Rest assured, if you walk into C2 you will find her smiling in her own
little corner. Smiley, she's called.
